My name is Gustavo and I am 4 years old. I live in Peru and attend the Peru-CDC program. I have 1 sister. At home I like to help wash the dishes and sweep. At church I like to color, sing and attend Sunday school. I also like soccer.
This Peruvian child development center is located in a "young town" (or shantytown), where most residents are unemployed or only able to get part-time work. The center offers a variety of life-enhancing opportunities. Physical health is supported through the provision of medical, dental, and eye care services; nutritious snacks are available on weekends, and dinners are served on special occasions. Educational success is bolstered by Saturday morning help sessions for students wrestling with mathematics and language arts. Counseling for children, and violence prevention training for parents, enable emotional well-being, as well as relational and social success. Staff teach spiritual values, and model them for children and their families. In an effort to improve living conditions, the center also teaches entrepreneurship. Together, the goal is to bring hope, for today and for the future.
