My name is Engi and I am 8 years old. I live in Nicaragua and attend the Nicaragua-CDC program. I have 2 brothers and 1 sister. At home I like to watch TV. At church I like to study the Bible. I also like playing soccer with my sister.
This child development center in Nicaragua seeks to support children and their families as they strive to overcome poverty, unemployment, depleted farmlands, and little understanding of early childhood development and the role of properly prepared nutritious meals in supporting physical and cognitive health. Part of the center's mission is to educate parents as well as children, to redirect the community towards a brighter future. Holistic programming includes enhancing physical health by serving nutritious meals, as well as educating families on proper nutrition and food preparation. Hygiene education and a water well located at the church enhance the community's health. Educational success and steadier employment are promoted through after school homework assistance, provision of school uniforms and supplies, and vocational training for older youth and adults. Art and music encourage emotional and social well-being; Bible lessons and retreats inspire spiritual growth.
